QUARANTINE PROFILE: Alex Porat
We’ve launch a profile series to highlight how artists are spending their time during quarantine. Several times a week we’ll highlight a new artist across the globe and see how they’re keeping busy during COVID-19 lockdowns.
You may have originally come across Alex Porat in the YouTube realm, but incase you’ve missed it, she’s been releasing some great bops since 2018 when she started writing and recording her original music. She finds a great way in her writing to find a little light in the sad part of relationships, which is highlighted in tracks like “happy for you”. Her smooth vocals would definitely bring us all comfort in a breakup so we’re here for it. Read on to see how Alex has been spending her quarantine.
How have you been staying busy during quarantine?
I’ve been writing a lot of new music, fine tuning songs that were written last year and preparing for them to get released soon. Strangely, I don’t think I’ve ever listened to as much music as I have been recently. I also have been spending hours watching TikToks (oops).
Song (or album) you’ve had on repeat:
Jeremy Zucker’s love is not dying album has been playing on repeat for me. I love the flow of the whole project and I very much admire him for the emotion you can hear in his music. My fave off the album is ‘full stop’.
What’s a song that is your go to comfort jam?
‘Love Bug’ by the Jonas Brothers. I went to the Jonas Brothers’ concert when they came to Toronto last year and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. My childhood came rushing back to me and I felt like crying every 5 minutes.
What’s the best advice you’ve received during this time?
Celebrate every small success. I think it’s important to be happy with every progressive step you take and to use those little moments of success as stepping stones to motivate you to keep going.
What’s something you miss the most right now?
I miss concerts so much. I’m a huge concert person. I’m hoping that things do get better to a point where attending concerts doesn’t feel so scary. I’m also itching to perform to a live audience! Can’t wait.
Anything new we should know about that you’re working on?
I have a few more singles coming out this year and I’m super excited to release them. One is about never saying “I love you” again and it was so fun to write and very fun to sing. I can’t wait.
