QUARANTINE PROFILE: Myles Cameron
We’ve launch a profile series to highlight how artists are spending their time during quarantine. Several times a week we’ll highlight a new artist across the globe and see how they’re keeping busy during COVID-19 lockdowns.
Like many artists we’ve had on this series, most plans have been turned upside down. Myles Cameron is another artist who is making the most of quarantine times despite the timing. He recently graduated, released his EP Black Sheep in February and has since been using the lockdown to think of next steps. Read on to see what Myles has been up to in our latest Quarantine Profile!
Where have you been spending your quarantine?
I just graduated college in December and was planning on spending a few months at home working out next steps for both music and life. Quarantine has sort of just extended that in-between period. I can’t say I hate it though. My producer is just a short drive away so I’ve been able to keep working on music which keeps me sane.
How have you been staying busy during quarantine? (or not keeping busy is totally fine too)
I’ve been trying to stay active going to the studio as much as I can. Towards the earlier half of quarantine I was binging a lot of TV series: Love Island, rewatched Breaking Bad, Avatar The Last Airbender. I think I’ve phased out of the binge-watch-all-day period though. More recently I’ve been reading books and watching movies. Shoutout James Baldwin & this book “Normal People” by Sally Rooney.
What’s something new you’ve cooked/baked?
I’ve been going crazy in the kitchen yo. My family alternates who cooks dinner every night and I’ve been a pretty consistent performer if I do say so myself. Mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, fried chicken, and sweet potatoes have been some highlights.
Album you’ve had on repeat:
It changes every week for me. Three weeks ago I couldn’t stop listening to Art Angels by Grimes, then it was Currents by Tame Impala. This week has been Die Lit by Carti.
What’s something you miss the most right now?
In this moment I actually feel really content. I’ve been trying to work on patience and just finding things to be excited about in the moment you’re in. I do really miss New York City though. Being stuck in an apartment is just not how this city is meant to be experienced. I can’t wait until I can explore, go to parks, and get drunk with friends again.
What do you hope we take away from this?
That BLACK LIVES MATTER and our country needs to seriously consider defunding the police and reinvesting into Black communities, education, and more effective ways of addressing non-violent crime than people in uniform showing up with guns.
