QUARANTINE PROFILE: Ron Gallo
We’ve launch a profile series to highlight how artists are spending their time during quarantine. Several times a week we’ll highlight a new artist across the globe and see how they’re keeping busy during COVID-19 lockdowns.
Ron Gallo has been on a bit of a well deserved hiatus since the release of his last album Stardust Birthday Party in 2018. He’s finally trickling back into our lives with a couple new singles all leading up to his next album. If you haven’t caught his REALLY NICE FEST over quarantine you really missed out. Read on to see what else Ron has been up to during quarantine and what you should be eating to experience bliss.
Where have you been spending your quarantine?
My house (mostly) in Nashville, TN.
How have you been staying busy during quarantine?
In the beginning I finished up a bunch of recordings which are starting to come out now and ran digital REALLY NICE FEST that ran for 9 weeks. Now, it's been aimless drives, playstation 1, laying in hammock in living room watching romantic comedies and 90's TV shows, yard work and occasionally just sitting staring at walls and spiraling into dread.
Anything new you’ve learned? / Something new you’ve done:
To be grateful for the small things - food, house, Chiara, health and to never take anything for granted ever again. I feel forced into the present moment because thinking about the future at this point just causes pain.
What’s something new you’ve cooked/baked?
I've been making gluten free pizza from scratch. Also charcoal grilled cod. But Chiara does most of the cooking because she doesn't trust me :)
Go to quarantine snack:
LUNA AND LARRY'S COCONUT BLISS DARK CHOCOLATE COOKIE SANDWICH. i wanted to make sure i got the exact title so people can find them, get them and experience bliss
Song (or album) you’ve had on repeat:
I've been really into Remi Wolf new EP I'm Allergic to Dogs!!! and Bakar's song ‘Hell N Back’.
What’s your go to song to make you feel less alone? / What’s a song that is your go to comfort jam?
Tyler the Creator "Boredom"
If you could only watch one film or TV show for the rest of time what would it be?
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
What’s the best advice you’ve received during this time?
Take it day by day.
What’s something you miss the most right now?
Touring, traveling, playing for people, human connection. Honestly, everything. I miss things I don't even like that much at this point.
Are there any livestream concerts/events you’ve really been inspired by or enjoying right now?
I actually really loved John Mayer's "Current Mood" every Sunday on instagram but he stopped. Can't really get into live stream music, though it's the only outlet I have right now. I love watching Tiny Desks over and over again.
What do you hope we take away from this?
Remembering the common thread of humanity by acknowledging this was a universally shared experience against something bigger than us and we survived it. This time has also exposed that the American system and mindset is so broken on every level and I hope we can move towards rebuilding the entire thing on a sense of humanity rather than prejudice, individualism and capital gain - because that shit does not work, obviously. I am not too optimistic on that anymore because people have somehow made even the topic of life political, and it's frustrating that we are becoming more divided in one of the biggest opportunities we've had for unity. Anyway, I just hope we can get closer to starting to see how we are all the same and we are not any of the things we normally identify with.
Anything new we should know about that you’re working on?
I have two singles out called ‘YOU ARE ENOUGH’ and ‘HIDE (MYSELF BEHIND YOU)’ which are part of ongoing single series that will ultimately become an album by the end of the year. New track and video every three weeks. Next one, ‘WUNDAY (CRAZY AFTER DARK)’, is 7/22. Also, check out http://reallynice.world - it's constantly evolving but opened REALLY NICE SHOP and am excited to start a new interview series called "human moment" which is Q&A stuff focusing on the real talk human deep emotional mental health stuff.
